Under Construction

I changed the look of my blog, but since I’m not really sure what I’m doing, it’s still a bit in disarray. Consider it my homage to non-perfection. And I was so busy not being able to figure out how to make it look better, all I have for you is this very current file from the Grammar Police Logs: YouTube wants to offer me a week or two of free TV, but their overzealous use of the apostrophe makes me wonder who is watching who? Written correction is mine because it’s fun to do that.

I’m more forgiving of the unending confusion over “its” vs “it’s”. That usage is irregular, so I can at least give you the benefit of the doubt that you get standard usage right. I also understand leaving punctuation out — because sometimes you’re too busy to check. I often reread my blogs and find typos, so yes I make mistakes, but also I’m not a huge company that can afford a copy editor.

But I don’t understand putting in punctuation when it’s not needed. Like you made an effort to be wrong. Really wrong. I mean there isn’t a contraction or possession within 10 picas of that word. As my beloved English teacher Mrs. Gerzanick, used to say, “When in doubt, leave it out.” She was talking about commas, but it works for apostrophes too.

But in honor of non-perfection, let’s just leave the ad to its own devices.
